our local YMCA. I usually ball out with my boys Shane and Robbie, you know, just
pick-up games. I also play on a church league, YMCA league, and the Carolina Beach
Recreation Center league. These give me almost eight months out of the year
that I am in some kind of organized league. Other than being tall, basketball didn't
come naturally to me at all. I have only acquired what skill I have by doing
nothing but practice, practice, and in-between all that, practice. I usually
play ball, wether it be by myself or with some friends, about 3-4 hours a day.
I don't really workout too much, but last summer I played at Empie Park like
everyday and lost almost 30lbs. So, I'm in decent shape. You could almost say that
basketball takes up about 1/2 of my life. I love playing and watching it, and
as you probably have already figured out, my favorite player is none other then
Stevie Franchise, "Wink", or you might know him better by his real name, Steve
Francis. I started watching Stevie way back in the day when he balled for the Maryland Terrapins. One day I was watching some college hoops when I saw this number 23 guy coming soaring down the court and lay in the nicest reverse finger roll I've ever seen, while he was being sandwiched between two other players. I was like, "Whoa, who the hell is that guy!" Once I found out who he was, I sort of started following him. If a Maryland game was on TV I would stop and watch it. The more I watched him, the more I really started liking his style of play. He is an explosive player who can drive, shoot, dish and nail the clutch shots. It was kind of weird cause round here in North Carolina you are either an NC State, UNC Chapel Hill, or a Duke fan and here I was a Terp fan. I would go to school and be like "How bout those Terps" and everyone would get real quiet and just look at me. Then if I mentioned Stevie, they'd be like "Steve who?" I kept telling them they better watch out for this guy, cause he was going to be one of the best. After Francis got done with college ball, I really started to follow him and the Rockets. I kinda got scared when he was in the draft and Vancouver got him. I was like, "Great, now I will never see or hear of him again!" But, thanks to Steve putting his foot down and telling them, not no, but HELL NO he wasn't going to play for them, he got traded to the Rockets. From then on out I've been a Houston Rockets fan. I went to a game last season, when the Rockets played the Charlotte Hornets, and finally got to see him play in the flesh. He was even more amazing playing in person. Well, now that there are no more Charlotte Hornets, I'll have to make my way up to Washington or down to Atlanta to see him play. This summer I am going over to Killeen, Texas to visit my sister and I really hope I can get some rockets tickets to see him play on his home court. Well, that's about all there is to know about me. Steve Francis is one of the best players in the L and I will always be a Franchise fan, no matter where he goes. You can ask anyone that know's me and they can tell you who my favorite player is. Well, this website's for you Stevie, hope everyone enjoy's it! |
 Robert Benya 2002 |
My name is Robert Benya and I am 17yrs. old. I live in Wilmington, North Carolina.
I was originally born in St. Louis, Missouri and have also lived in Napa Valley,
California. There is nothing to do in Wilmington except eat, sleep, watch TV,
and there is the occasional party. So, one day I got real bored and decided
to create this web page. I have played many sports in my lifetime including: baseball, football, and lacrosse, but the only sport that I ever really got hooked on was basketball, and seeing as I am 6'4" and weigh 180lbs, it kind of makes sense for me to play. I eat, sleep, and live basketball. If there is nothing to do then you can almost always find me playing ball somewhere. If it's nice outside, you can catch me at Empie Park, which is where all the local ballers play and is also the only place in town to find some real comp. But, on those |
